Convert AVIF to GIF online. See the real pixel decoding and image re-encoding behavior, preservation limits, and a format-specific acceptance test.
Converter.now decodes a high-efficiency AV1-derived still image with HDR and alpha capabilities into a working pixel canvas, then writes that canvas according to GIF's color and compression model. Dimensions may stay constant while encoding, metadata, and fine detail change. AVIF reading selects the primary AV1 image item and follows its color, alpha, depth, gain-map, transform, and sequence relationships inside the container. GIF output reduces frames to indexed palettes and binary transparency, so color selection, dithering, disposal, timing, loop seam, and absent audio define quality.
Canvas decoded from a high-efficiency AV1-derived still image with HDR and alpha capabilities. Image written as a frame animation or indexed-color image limited to a 256-color palette.
Used for high-efficiency modern images.
Designed for short animations and simple graphics.
GIF wins this route whenever its specific mix of compatibility, alpha, animation, and file size fits the destination better than AVIF does.
Older apps may not decode AVIF, and aggressive encoding can smear fine texture despite a small file.
Photographs and gradients can band, semi-transparent edges are reduced, and timing may be quantized.
The video-to-GIF path samples frames at 12 per second, caps width at 960 pixels, and drops audio entirely — GIF has no sound channel to carry it.
Inspect gradients and texture at 100% and open the file on the oldest required device.
Play the full loop and inspect color banding, disposal between frames, transparency, and the loop seam.
