Pixel tracing into approximate paths: how SR2 becomes SVG

The SR2 pixel edges are traced into approximate shapes for SVG. This is vectorization, not recovery of the designer's original paths, layers, fonts, or control points. The older Sony SR2 reader uses generation-specific maker data and a matching body profile before converting its sensor array into full-color pixels. SVG output stores scalable XML graphics with paths, viewBox coordinates, styles, and optional text; tracing, fonts, filters, and external assets determine editability.

Deciding when SR2 to SVG is the right conversion

Use traced SVG for simple flat marks that need scalable outlines. Photographs, texture, and evidence-grade source pixels belong in SR2 or another raster master.

What changes between the SR2 model and the SVG deliverable

  • SVG supports alpha transparency that SR2 never had, so any transparent areas in the result are newly created, not carried over from the source.
  • SVG expects scalable path data that a raster SR2 source never recorded; any vector shapes in the result are traced approximations, not recovered geometry.
  • SVG supports an editable object model SR2 never had, so structure in the result is newly assigned by the writer, not carried over from the source.
  • Treat SR2-specific metadata fields as optional in the SVG result until you have actually confirmed they survived.
