The sensor-oriented SR2 data is developed into display pixels using demosaicing, white balance, tone, orientation, and color interpretation before JPG encoding. That makes the result a rendered photograph, not another untouched camera negative. The older Sony SR2 reader uses generation-specific maker data and a matching body profile before converting its sensor array into full-color pixels. JPG delivery writes opaque, lossy photographic pixels; quality must be judged around high-contrast edges, gradients, fine texture, orientation, and repeated-encode damage.
