Demosaicing, white balance, tone, orientation, and color interpretation all run against the sensor-oriented CR3 data before PNG encoding even starts. What comes out is a rendered photograph, never another untouched camera negative. The CR3 reader traverses an ISO Base Media package rather than the older CR2 layout, then selects the primary Canon raw item and its metadata associations. PNG delivery preserves exact raster samples with optional full alpha and color metadata, but file size, palette reduction, animation absence, and profile handling still vary.
