The sensor-oriented CR2 data is developed into display pixels using demosaicing, white balance, tone, orientation, and color interpretation before GIF encoding. That makes the result a rendered photograph, not another untouched camera negative. The Canon CR2 reader locates raw sensor strips and the embedded preview inside its TIFF-based structure before photographic development begins. Because GIF reduces every frame to an indexed palette with only on/off transparency, quality here comes down to color selection, dithering, disposal, timing, and the loop seam — with no audio at all.
