Decoding MP1 recovers the waveform and channel layout it carries; writing AAC means re-expressing that under a different codec and container profile. Duration commonly survives untouched even while compression, channel mapping, cadence, metadata, or auxiliary streams do not. MPEG Layer I frames are decoded with their original sampling, channel mode, padding, and frame timing before delivery in a current audio profile. An AAC elementary-stream result carries coded audio frames without the richer tags, chapters, artwork, and track metadata of an M4A container.

Modern devices support MP1 less reliably than MP3, and transcoding its already-lossy signal cannot restore discarded detail.
