Convert CAF to MKV online and see exactly what audio-only container delivery changes, what MKV still can't promise, and how to verify the result.
CAF audio is what actually exists here, and it gets encoded straight into a MKV media container. No artwork or motion is invented, so the resulting MKV file can carry no meaningful video stream at all. Core Audio Format input derives sample description, packet table, channel layout, edit information, and data extent from independent CAF chunks. Matroska delivery can retain multiple timed tracks, languages, subtitles, chapters, and attachments, though simplified writers and browser players may use only a subset.
Decoded from Apple Core Audio Format chunks designed for long recordings and varied audio codecs. Encoded to a flexible Matroska container capable of multiple audio, video, subtitle, and attachment streams.
Used for recorded sound meant for playback over time.
Designed for flexible multi-track video storage.
Non-Apple applications may reject CAF or support only a subset of the codecs and channel layouts it can contain.
A simplified conversion may keep only primary streams, and many browsers do not play MKV directly.
The verified MKV profile uses H.264 video and Opus audio when those streams are present.
Inspect the actual codec, sample rate, bit depth, channel layout, duration, markers, and destination-app playback.
Inspect the stream list, subtitles, language labels, chapters, seeking, and sync.
This route only makes sense when the destination workflow explicitly wants audio wrapped in MKV - It does not generate a music visualizer or a slideshow.
